A dream to the sunken city of “Kekova”

Surrounded by the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean, Kekova is located near the Demre district of Antalya. Kekova, which attracts attention with its natural beauty as well as its historical ruins, has become famous for its ruins known as the sunken city.

Kekova, known as “Dolichiste” in ancient times, was the home of the Lycian civilization. The settlement, which dates back to the 4th century BC, was partially buried under the sea over time as a result of earthquakes. Today, the foundations of the houses, stairs and streets can be viewed on glass-bottom boat tours. This unique sight gives visitors the feeling of traveling back in time.

The settlements around Kekova such as Simena (castle village), Teimiussa (Üçağız village) and Apollonia also bear witness to the historical wealth of the region. The small theater in Simena, the royal tombs and the magnificent view from the top of the castle are among the most interesting points for visitors.

Kekova was declared a special environmental protection zone in 1990. In this way, both nature and the historical structure are protected and the archaeological values are preserved by restricting some activities such as diving.

Kekova is a unique destination for nature lovers, history buffs and sea enthusiasts and one of Turkey's hidden treasures. With its tranquillity, clear sea and thousands of years of history.
